What can I say I love trains! And so does one of my favorite local Artists Andy Dreamingwolf. He has spent years working on this exhibit and it was so cool to get the in depth tour of all this history he collected to share!
Moniker Identity Lost and Found is a beautiful collection of a world without roads. The signs are drawings left behind by unknown travelers. It’s a secretive world that the rest of us rarely see or experience, but it’s rich in culture and honor.
Take some time and stop by if you’re local. It’s well worth a special trip if you’re not;) Here’s the info!
“Moniker, Identity: Lost and Found is a art exhibition that opens on June 23, 2018 in the main gallery of the Massillon Museum.
The history of monikers is that of folklore. These are the stories that have traveled by word of mouth for generations. There is no definitive written history or catalog of this art form, nor inventory of biographies of the individuals involved with it. In this powerful exhibition, the Massillon Museum has stepped in to record this history and document it so that it can remain a part of railroad heritage for generations to come. The exhibit, which will run through October 21, 2018, offers unprecedented documentation and exploration of mark-making and monikers, a grassroots movement which began in rail yards in the late nineteenth century, and continue today.”

I highly recommend taking the time to look through this window into a little known subculture. It inspired me on many levels. Much respect and admiration to curators for the years of work to compile the marks left behind by these beautifully worn wondering souls.
