Real Women

Moniqe Fiddes | South African singing sensation on the woman behind the man. So much more than simply the wife of Matt Fiddes, former bodyguard to Michael Jackson

Listen Later

Our guest this week is the stunning Moniqe Fiddes.  A singer-songwriter in her own right, but often simply referred to as the wife of Michael Jackson's former bodyguard, friend and martial arts star Matt Fiddes. Now living in the UK, a mother of six (including stepmother to three girls), Moniqe runs her own household whilst continuing her successful life as a singer/songwriter and co-directing MF Martial Arts Academy with Matt. Moniqe is showing the world that she is so much more than "The woman behind the man".

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Life can be very lonely for successful people because your trust circle becomes smaller and smaller. Some people can try and take advantage of your relationship for their own gain meaning it’s harder to let people in.
  • We need to give more respect and understanding towards those who might work from home or stay at home to raise kids and do all those things in the home we don’t see that makes a household work.
  • It's a personal choice whether you get help in or not. Women should try harder not to judge seemingly successful women who do get help. And on the other hand, no matter how successful someone is, some mums just want to do it themselves.
  • There is a consequence to going to work as a woman with a family, you need to make a conscious effort to make the family connection work how you want it to.
  • Write down the things you want in life, this helps you visualise what you want and work towards it. If you tell yourself that anything is possible then you start to believe it, and when you believe it you do it.

BEST MOMENTS

‘I feel a lot of people judge me before they meet me because of this persona’

‘Women need to support other women more’

‘Can can still do what you want to do if you make the time for it’

‘Music is meant to be for me’

ABOUT THE GUEST

From the young age of 9 Moniqe decided to become a singer.  At 15 Monqie started modelling and progressed to playing parts in several music videos, at which point many might say she fulfilled her dream, but that would be underestimating this amazing woman. Self motivated and determined she kept going with her dream and in 2009 signed with a record company releasing her first album, Ek Kan, in 2010.  That was before she met the "love of her life", best friend and soulmate Matt, in 2012.

ABOUT THE HOSTS

Dawn and Tracy are real women who are fed up with all the “noise” out there in the real world. Life isn’t simply rainbows and unicorns, it's broken relationships, hard work, hot sweats and never ending laundry baskets.  But life as a real woman is also about being honest, having good gossip and speaking our truths. Whether it’s peeling yourself into your spandex for a night out, or running a business meeting barefoot because the heel has fallen off your stilettos, there is always something to laugh about in life.

Dawn is mid 50’s mid menopause straight talking business maverick.  Four kids, three grandchildren, two businesses, one husband and a self proclaimed “hottie”.

Tracy is a mid 50’s awesome mum, business and property mentor. Proud of her raw, honest nature, “bonkers” sense of humour and good old fashioned northern humility.
