Monologue: Information, Evidence, and the Problem with "Misinformation"

Listen Later

In this rambling morning monologue, I share a recent experience that perfectly illustrates how the term "misinformation" has become a weapon of censorship rather than a tool for truth-seeking. After receiving a threatening email demanding I remove a podcast episode about an Iboga retreat center, I explore why I chose to take it down—not because of legal threats, but because I refuse to waste energy on manufactured drama. This incident sparked deeper reflections on how terms like misinformation, disinformation, and the Orwellian concept of "malinformation" are used to shut down debate rather than encourage the full airing of facts. I discuss why true and false thinking is a limitation of Western education, how information has become noise that distracts us from actual reality, and why the adversarial system of presenting all evidence—rather than controlling narratives—leads to better truth-seeking. Drawing from my legal background, I emphasize that evidence requires inference, and different people can legitimately draw different conclusions from the same facts. This episode is ultimately a call to recognize information for what it is—noise that shouldn't overtake our actual lived experience of breathing, sensing, and being present in our bodies and immediate environment.
