Monster Hunter Wilds Weapons Feel Less Impactful

Listen Later

In the beta version of Monster Hunter Wilds, many players have reported that the combat feels less impactful and the weapons feel worse compared to previous games in the series. This issue is primarily attributed to the reduction or complete removal of 'hitstop' in the game. Hitstop is a brief animation pause that occurs when a weapon connects with an enemy, which helps emphasize the power or heaviness of the attack. In Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom has significantly reduced or eliminated hitstop on most weapon types, leading to a less satisfying and less impactful combat experience. For example, attacks like the Switch Axe's Overhead Chop, which had noticeable hitstop in previous games like Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Monster Hunter Rise, now have no hitstop in Wilds.

Additionally, the new Focus feature in Monster Hunter Wilds, which emphasizes precision strikes at monster weak points, has also contributed to the nerfing of certain weapons. This feature disincentivizes the use of weapons with wider damage spreads, such as the Insect Glaive and Switch Axe, making them feel less unique and less effective compared to their versions in previous games.

Players have expressed their frustration over the lack of immediate feedback when using shields to block attacks, further exacerbating the feeling that the combat is less impactful.

Overall, these changes have resulted in a combat experience that feels floaty and less engaging for many players.
