More Dictator Shit: Part 2

Listen Later

Spiderwebs are fascinating feats of engineering. Practically invisible yet incredibly strong, we can walk right into them and get stuck before we even realize they’re there. Luckily for us, we’re not tiny bugs with no way to make sense of the situation and escape. We can learn to recognize them, avoid them, and even tear them down so they can’t make meals of us any more.

In Part 2 of this episode, we continue our discussion of what’s happening behind the scenes as Peter Thiel weaves his spiderweb of technocratic government control through Palantir, the PayPal Mafia, and Christian nationalism modeled after a country whose influence over U.S. politics has flown under the radar much more successfully than Russia. (Nope, it’s not Germany…)

As Fortune writer Jessica Mathews recently wrote, ‘Thiel may not be the face of this administration—but it’s the network he has assembled over his career that’s staffing it.’ Most of us know another big spider is Elon Musk, but too few understand that they’re not weaving separate webs, but rather one giant one that reaches throughout the U.S. government. And they share a bond that goes deeper than technological innovation: The apartheid South Africa connection. Join us to understand how that shared history undergirds this slow-motion coup so we have the foundational knowledge we need to defeat it.
