Happy White Cane Day! In this special episode of More Than Blindness, we mark White Cane Day by celebrating independence, awareness, and community across Montana.
We’re excited to officially introduce the MAB Great White Cane Challenge (GMWCC)—our statewide fundraiser empowering local chapters across Montana. Through the GMWCC, local chapters host fundraising efforts in their own communities and split the proceeds with the statewide Montana Association for the Blind. This collaborative effort ensures that local chapters retain funds directly for their own community events, programs, and operational expenses, while also supporting MAB’s statewide mission.
We also dive into the heart of effective fundraising: the power of sharing your story. At the Montana Association for the Blind, our members' lived experiences are our greatest asset. When we talk about how the MAB impacts blind and low-vision Montanans—fostering independence, providing peer support, and expanding accessibility—we show our communities why this work matters. Tune in to learn more about the challenge, how your chapter can participate, and why your voice is key to moving our mission forward.
Who defines us—society, or ourselves?"
In our very first episode of More Than Blindness, hosts Misty and Ed kick off the podcast with a look into the Montana Association for the Blind (MAB)—sharing its history, structure, and a brief rundown of local chapters supporting members across the Treasure State.
From there, Misty and Ed dive into an open conversation on vision loss, identity, and breaking past assumptions. They
outline goals for the show, discuss upcoming segment concepts, and reflect on how they navigate daily life with blindness. From societal expectations to personal perceptions, Misty and Ed give you an authentic look at who they are, how MAB connects the community, and where this podcast is headed.
