  • Demonstration      of his power and goodness 1 Cor 29:12-14 - comes from him, he is the ruler      of all things, all praise to him; Haggai 2:7-9 it’s all his, greatness of      the house, grant peace
  • Means for cheerful generosity 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 cheerful giver, giving from the heart, sow generously.  No greater compliment than imitation - we      should give generously as he gives
  • Furthering      the kingdom
  • Treasures      in heaven not Earth
  • Balanced      saving, not wasteful, hasty spending - not Luke 12:21 - not storing up on      Earth  but not Proverbs 21:5 (hasty comes to poverty, diligent to      abundance
  • Our      heart belongs to God, not money Matthew 6:19-21 where your treasure is,      so is your heart can’t serve god and mammon (wealth regarded as a false idol) Luke 16;12-13
  • Freedom, not enslavement
  • Peace      -Hebrews 11:1 -faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.


    • Debt keeps us from doing from serving our purposes, being generous, tithing, etc slaves to the lender Proverbs 22:7
    • Relationships -Ameritrade found that 41% of divorced Gen Xers and 29% of Boomers say they ended their marriage due to disagreements about money.
    • Comparison/covetousness
    • False idols
    • Discontentment - never satisfied
    • Distraction.
    • Pride is wrapped up tight in ownership and success
    • Self-reliance instead of God reliance Luke 12:15-22
    • Verse mapping of the love of money is the root of ALL evil

      • Delayed Gratification.

      Treating his blessings with more care and trusting God to provide.

      Live with the necessities as if in a timeshare or camper.  Our home here is temporary, not permanent.

      Spend the time, not the money.
