Next up on the More Than My Credentials series is Dr. Kevin Haggard. Dr. Kevin Haggard was born and raised in Louisville, KY, and is a product of Jefferson County Public Schools. After graduation from high school, he enrolled at Tennessee State University, a historically black college and university (HBCU), where he majored in Social Work. Shortly after graduation from TSU, Dr. Haggard began work with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services as a Family Service Worker, working in partnership with children and families to achieve permanence. During his tenure with DCS, he was able to establish a strong foundation in the field, working to build relationships with key stakeholders and community leaders, while gaining valuable exposure to various systems, including healthcare, criminal justice, and education.

The role of Family Service Worker was instrumental to the professional success of Dr. Haggard as it helped to build a very eclectic skill set that allows him to be a servant leader who puts equity and social justice first. After a multi-year term with the department, Dr. Haggard began working in public education, serving as a leader in various K-12 and higher education spaces. In most recent years, he has served as a Family Resource Center Director, a Site Coordinator for a national drop-out prevention organization, a Director of School Partnerships for a national organization that focuses on disrupting educational inequities, a Director of Talent Management for a high-performing network of schools in Tennessee and Mississippi, and as an Assistant Professor & MSW Coordinator in the Department of Social Work & Urban Studies at Tennessee State University.

Currently, Dr. Haggard works as a Program Manager for a Fortune 100 company. He holds a Masters of Social Work from Western Kentucky University and a Doctorate of Education in Professional Practice and Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. Dr. Haggard’s mission is to inspire, promote, and facilitate transformational change within communities that have been negatively impacted by unjust and inequitable systems. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, reading, eating at new restaurants, and spending time with his daughters, Kassidy and Kennedy.
