Scripture:
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” — Matthew 7:21
Not everything on the outside is what it seems.
Sometimes what looks polished, put together, and convincing on the surface tells a very different story underneath.
In this episode of Digging Another Well, we reflect on one of the most sobering warnings from Jesus in Matthew 7. He speaks of people who called Him Lord, who did impressive things in His name, and who appeared to have genuine faith.
But He says something unexpected: “I never knew you.”
From the outside, everything looked right.
The language was right.
The actions were visible.
But underneath, something was missing.
This devotional challenges us to consider the difference between appearing faithful and actually knowing Christ. It is possible to wear the “jacket” of faith — to say the right things and show up in the right places — while the deeper reality of our lives tells a different story.
God is not looking for a performance.
He is looking for a relationship.
This is not a call to perfection, but to authenticity. Not to manage an impression, but to pursue transformation from the inside out.
If your faith has felt more external than internal, this devotional is a reminder that God sees beyond appearances — and invites you to come to Him as you are.
