Do you love me more than these? Jesus may have asked this question of Peter, but it’s a question we must all wrestle with. 

After what must have been an incredibly awkward breakfast with some of Jesus’ remaining disciples, Jesus pulls Peter aside and asks him a question: Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these? This begs yet another question: what are the ‘these’? What or who is Jesus referring to? The text itself offers not immediate explanation therefore inviting us to wrestle with possible solutions. However, regardless of how we answer this, one thing is certain: no matter how we answer that question, love for Jesus must translate into love for others. If our love for God fails to become good news for the people around us, chances are we have failed to love God in a way that God actually desires.
