Nothing devoted to destruction shall cling to your hands, so that the LORD will turn from His fierce anger, grant you mercy, show you compassion, and multiply you as He swore to your fathers, — Deuteronomy 13:17
God commanded Israel to let nothing of the cursed thing cling to their hands. The same call echoes in the New Testament: come out from among them and be separate. Abstain from fleshly lusts that war against the soul. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and live soberly, righteously, and godly. We purify ourselves as He is pure — not to earn His favor, but because we have it.
