The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! — John 1:29

John the Baptist points away from himself and fixes our gaze: Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. It's impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins, but God prepared a body for His Son. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and opened not His mouth. You were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish and without spot. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.
