“Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him. — Matthew 3:15

Jesus said to John,'Let it be so now, to fulfill all righteousness'. Even the sinless One submitted to baptism to identify with sinners and fulfill every righteous requirement. He delighted to do God's will, came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, and magnified the law and made it honorable. Our righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees — not by better behavior, but by receiving Christ's righteousness. What the law couldn't do because of our weak flesh, God did by sending His Son.
