And Lot looked out and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan, all the way to Zoar, was well watered like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) — Genesis 13:10-11

Lot lifted his eyes and saw the well-watered plain of Jordan — and he chose it. It looked like the garden of the Lord. But it wasn't. Lot was a righteous man tormented by the lawlessness around him, yet he still chose Sodom. Don't be deceived — God is not mocked; whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
