For as the Father has life in Himself, so also He has granted the Son to have life in Himself. — John 5:26

This is the great exchange: Christ has life in Himself, and He gives that life to all who believe. He is the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in Him, though he die, yet shall he live. The believer has eternal life not as a future hope but as a present possession. This life is in the Son; he who has the Son has life.
