Jacob found God in the wilderness, sleeping on a stone—a picture of grace that finds us when we are not even looking. Through Christ, every place becomes Bethel: He has promised to be with us always, and “where two or three gather in His name, He is there”. “The high and lofty One who inhabits eternity also dwells with the contrite”. He is nearer than we think, and that is pure Gospel.
