Morningfile: Inside Wattleseed

Listen Later

This episode of Morningfile explores Wattleseed, the latest short film by McMaster student filmmaker William Chai. The film centres on an ambiguous artificial intelligence system that becomes a focal point for the characters’ anxieties, prompting audiences to question whether the technology itself is responsible for the unfolding events — or if the real danger lies in human perception and decision-making.

Sam speaks with Will, a third-year Honours Health Sciences student and Co-President of the McMaster Film Production Club, about the inspiration behind the film and how artificial intelligence can serve as a lens for exploring ethics, medicine, and institutional responsibility.

Will’s previous film, Murder of Minus, screened internationally and received multiple awards, including Best Student Film and Best Actor. In addition to filmmaking, he also hosts Ticket Stub Talks, a weekly program on 93.3 CFMU focused on film and film production.
