Morocco identified on Thursday its first case of monkeypox, confirmed the Ministry of Health.

The case relates to a person arriving from Europe. No details were shared by the ministry to protect patient confidentiality.

The case was identified on the basis of a monitoring protocol established by the ministry in ports and airports.

The infected person is stable and does not cause concern, said the ministry.

Efforts are underway to identify contact cases for monitoring purposes.
