Leading Taiwanese business tycoon Morris Chang has been in the news recently. Chang is the founder of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest chipmaker by market capitalization.
Last Friday, Chang attended this year’s Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC summit on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen. The closed-door meeting was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The presidents of the United States, China, and Russia all attended the event.
Speaking at a press conference after the summit, Chang said he told participants that Taiwan has been able to keep the pandemic at bay even though there was a spike in domestically-transmitted cases recently. Chang also said that Taiwan used to donate face masks and other medical equipment to other APEC member countries, and now Taiwan is willing share its experience and knowledge with others.
