Nevada Rural Housing has expanded one of Nevada's most talked-about down payment assistance programs, and many homebuyers who didn't qualify before may now be eligible.
This week, Heidi Griffith and Roland Daniels welcome Kevin Hickey, Homeownership Program Manager for Nevada Rural Housing, to discuss the expansion of the Rural Rocks 20K program and what it means for homebuyers across Nevada.
Originally created for essential workers through AB540, the program has now opened to a much broader group of eligible buyers. Qualified borrowers may receive up to $20,000 in down payment assistance, with the option to use part of those funds to permanently buy down their mortgage interest rate.
During this episode, you'll learn:
• Who now qualifies for Nevada Rural Housing's Rural Rocks 20K program
• Why parts of the Las Vegas Valley, including Winchester, Whitney, and Summerlin South, may qualify as "rural"
• How the $20,000 assistance is repaid and why there are no monthly payments
• Why Nevada Rural Housing interest rates often compare favorably with traditional mortgage financing
• Common myths about down payment assistance that keep many buyers from ever exploring their options
• Why this funding is limited and why waiting could mean missing the opportunity
Whether you're buying your first home, purchasing again after selling a previous home, or simply wondering if down payment assistance could help you become a homeowner, this episode explains the program in plain English and answers many of the questions buyers ask every day.
If you've assumed you needed years to save for a down payment, thought you earned too much to qualify, or believed assistance programs had already run out, this conversation may change what you thought was possible.
