Motivation to Change: Behind the Scenes of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Dr. Raymond Bepko

Today’s guest has been one of the single most influential people in my own life and mental health. In this conversation, we talk about the most common dysfunctional and unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior that people struggle with, the difference between desire and motivation in creating lasting change, what stops people from changing, and the skills that are necessary for psychological health and resilience. 

Dr. Raymond Bepko has been a practicing psychotherapist in New York State since 1978. He is presently in private practice in the central New York area. His practice encompasses traditional emotional and behavioral issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, and adjustment to life events. Dr. Bepko specifically uses mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy to help his patients recover from and transcend mood disorders, pain, illness, injury, addiction, and trauma, and to develop and practice the specific attitudes, skills, and behaviors central to physical and psychological wellness. 

Dr. Bepko has also been my personal therapist for the last 8 years and who I lovingly refer to as the Robin Williams to my Good Will Hunting.
