In ancient times, a high place (a mountain top) was considered sacred. It was closer to the sky, closer to the gods. In the Bible, the real God gave his prophets, priests, and all kinds of people mountain top experiences, not the least of which was the giving of the 10 Commandments in Exodus 20 to Moses. However, the greatest of all mountaintop experiences involved God incarnate...a new Moses...Jesus...who instructed his disciples as to how to live the good life. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."
