Mourning a Legacy The Tragic Loss of a Wild Stallion in the Outer Banks

Listen Later

Hello, and welcome to the Outer Banks Brief. Today we bring you news of a heartbreaking loss in the wild horse community. Early Saturday, 26-year-old Shannon Seamster, driving her Chevy Tahoe near Nags Head, struck a five-year-old stallion. Officials say the young horse was killed on impact, and Seamster was arrested for a DWI and released on a $2,500 bond.

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund, which monitors the critically endangered herd, said the stallion was “the last of his mother’s offspring” and warned that his “genetics can never be replaced.” With the herd listed as critically endangered, the fund said they had hoped he would carry on the family line. His loss now deepens concerns for the future of these legendary Outer Banks horses.

As charges move forward, the community mourns a horse whose promise was tied to the survival of an entire population. Thank you for listening.
