Movie Review: Black Sea (2014)

Listen Later

Today I watched Black Sea directed by Kevin Macdonald and starring Jude Law, Scoot McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn. I really enjoyed this film, it combines the thrill of a heist film with the danger of a survival film and put it into the other wordly environment of the deep sea.

Erik’s IMDB Review:

I enjoyed Black Sea immensely, it combines the excitement of a heist film with the danger and suspense of a survival thriller. Jude Law, Scoot McNairy and the rest of the cast do a fantastic job driving the story with believable performances in extraordinary circumstances. Other films I would compare this too are Ocean’s Eleven (a team of experts brought together for a tremendous job) Gravity (faced with overwhelming obstacles in an unforgiving environment) Inside Man, and Alien (a crew trapped in a vessel surrounded by death). Additionally, both the camaraderie and animosity among the crew members was quite compelling, and the core commentary on the needs and desires of different social classes was very well done.
