A situation which is occurring more and more in the various expat countries, especially in Asia, is that people are coming up to retirement age and have to move back to their home country or to another country of residence. The place they have called home for three to four decades will no longer allow them to remain as residents, unless they obtain an “investor visa” or “family visa” from their children. We know families that planned their retirement home and built it or bought a house many years ago in preparation for this moment. However is it still a distressing, emotional time for many people even if they have planned the move years in advance. We discuss this situation that is arising for our friends and families more and more often and how to alleviate the distress or decluttering and packing for the move. We'll follow up on this episode with specific things to consider outside of just your possessions, such as bank accounts and deposits.
