Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.
Kyle Heimbigner of Joshua ISD joins Brad Allard for an update on the 2026–2027 school year and the programs, people, and opportunities driving the district forward.
Kyle explains Joshua ISD’s limited open-enrollment process, including how applications are evaluated according to factors such as available classroom space, grades, and disciplinary records. They discuss the district’s continued growth, its strong academic accountability rating, and a teacher-retention rate of approximately 86 to 87 percent. Kyle credits the district’s stability to educators who feel supported, administrators who value classroom expertise, and a shared commitment to student success.
Brad and Kyle also examine the changing educational landscape in Texas. Topics include school-voucher programs, competition from private schools and homeschooling, state takeovers of struggling districts, student recruitment, classroom discipline, and the importance of allowing teachers enough flexibility to respond to their students rather than following an inflexible script.
Artificial intelligence is another growing concern. Kyle describes the district’s focus on helping students understand and use AI safely and responsibly while teachers address its potential misuse in assignments.
The conversation highlights Joshua ISD’s expanding career and technical education facilities. Programs include audiovisual production, computer science, healthcare, business management, entrepreneurship, cosmetology, culinary arts, engineering, and robotics. Local businesses are invited to support students through mentoring, job shadowing, and professional experience.
Kyle also celebrates the district’s athletic accomplishments, robotics success, new middle-school career courses, and its mission to prepare every student for college, military service, or the workforce.
