Back in 2000, Scott Ryan started work on The Magician, a mockumentary about a hitman called Ray Shoesmith that he wrote, directed and starred in. In 2005, the $3000 feature got a cinema release, and a lot of critical love. Then, nothing. Now, finally, Ryan is back, and so is Ray, with Mr Inbetween, a six-part comedy-drama that has won a lot of fans, earned a swag of AACTA award nominations, and has just been given the greenlight for a second season by American cable network FX. In this special episode of The Clappers, Ryan tells Karl Quinn where it all went wrong, and why he's still reluctant to believ it has all suddenly gone right.
