Nature's Call: Backpacking Through History

Mr. Muir Goes to Yosemite

Listen Later

John Muir is a heavy-hitter in the outdoors and environmental movements. His initial departure from the city to go “wherever is wild” is rambling but, eventually, he ends up where his heart was happiest: Yosemite Valley.
In this episode, I take a deep, Campbellian dive into that story through the lens of The Hero with a Thousand Faces. We meet Muir and hear straight from his diaries, The Yosemite, which is available free for Kindle.
The Muir biography I mentioned is A Passion for Nature. It’s a great, in-depth look at Muir’s life and will be a source on future episodes of Nature’s Call.

David and I unboxed and gave initial thoughts on his new Nemo Hornet, live from the living room.
