Beyond the Pain: How Tragedy Led Him to True Joy. My guest this week is Mr. Ryan Dunn, former police officer turned project manager.
“The darkest nights produce the brightest stars.” ~ Unknown
Sometimes we may find ourselves in situations that force us to push through pain that we did nothing to cause. That is exactly what my guest this week had to do at the early age of 11 when his mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a short time later. Mr. Ryan Dunn found himself hurting and feeling lost, but thankfully he had a caring father that would always be by his side.
Ryan describes how growing up was made easier when his stepmother came into the picture and how she accepted Ryan and his brothers as her own. Despite the great mentors in his life Ryan admits that he and his brother got into their fair share of trouble.
Then after a 12 year stretch of working at a golf course, Ryan decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a police officer. His father is a retired Memphis Police Officer and Ryan had always been impressed with his father’s work. It was on the police department that Ryan found his groove, but his life would suddenly change overnight after making one bad decision. It was this turning point in his life that he chooses to be better instead of being bitter. He used his mistake to be a voice for others and prove that second chances matter and there can be light on the horizon if just keep going and never give up.
