Ms. Black Pearl:
The Original, The One, The Only. Ms. Black Pearl
I am the only Black Pearl.
Search my name, and you’ll find echoes,
homonyms in the digital sea—
but there is only one.
Original. Unrepeated.
Ms. Black Pearl
I was born under
Carter’s sun,
a Gen X soul with politics already pulsing in my veins
on an Election Day in ’76.
A love child, a precious gift in a world quick to judge.
Before Reading Rainbow, words were walls.
ADHD and dyslexia—silent, unseen storms.
Speech impediment, but poetry?
Poetry spoke for me.
It was my first true friend.
At five, the night sky gifted me a vision:
a rainbow arcing over a full blue moon.
I discovered my first
Scale.
It wasn't about fortune. It was protection.
Sometimes
The creator will use you
as a test of his mission
Where
An unseen force,
Will come against
You, but the creator’s decree,
made me untouchable.
That’s when I heard it—the musical language of the universe.
My spectrum was not in daylight, but in the waves of sound.
We were the latchkey generation.
Seen, but never heard.
The 10 PM announcements would ask,
“Have you seen your child?”
The streets were our school, hustled our homework.
We held creativity tight—our most vital tool.
Innovation was our inheritance.
And through it all, a chorus rooted in my spirit:
You are who you are.
I am who I am.
My own best friend.
My moral compass. My own circle.
From right to left, sunrise to sundown—
I am Black Pearl.
I rise. I fell.
I never claim
I am not a genius.
And by surprise,
like the air I breathe, like the new day unfolding,
I rise again.
