Every Language Counts: Throughout this podcast, our biggest message to get across was that we need to increase diversity in languages throughout schools. Students must speak up to achieve this. Allowing students to choose a language of their choice allows them to engage themselves more into the course. Most students are forced into taking a second language course in the beginning of their middle school years. Then they must continue learning the same or different language in highschool. After all these years of forcing students to take a specific language and not giving them more variety, they don’t even want to consider taking a second language in college. They will be more devoted to mastering the language, be able to connect more with others, and have an advantage in the workfield. Being multilingual allows you to help others who have language barrier problems and you can possibly be a translator. We want students to realize that those languages may not be the only options they have and they should not settle for that. There are so many other different cultures and languages that are present in the world which should also be exposed to students. We encourage others to look into different languages they would like to learn based on their own culture or just any interest they already have in some other country. By doing so this will help to create more of a multilingual community at Adelphi.
