2Pe 1:1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:
Apostle Peter wrote his first letter to a persecuted church expecting the return of the Lord so his greeting contains a substance similar to that of Apostles Paul and Jude in the Bible. The second epistle was written to ‘warn them against false teachers and their corrupt and corrupting doctrine’ (The Outlined Bible by Robert Lee.) From his opening paragraph we can already extract spiritual technology for multiplying grace and peace.
1. Grace and peace is triggered by apostolic anointing and perspective. Simon Peter includes both his given Jewish name and the symbolic Christian name given to him by the Lord Jesus (Mt 16:18). A servant and an apostle. Apostle claims the authority to be heard in the name of the Lord, apostles have keys of the kingdom to bind and loose, but also to unlock seals of mysteries in the Bible, so that we can understand.
2. Grace and peace is unlocked through the attitude of a servant.
3. Grace and peace are both founded on faith in Christ Jesus. “Like precious faith” is a term that acknowledges a gravity of Christian virtue and belief, that has also been forged in the fires of persecution. When you meet people who have suffered like you for the love of Jesus and the sake of the Gospel, the conversation is in heavenly realms and the connection is divine. Such conversation and indeed letters between Christians like this helps to give us momentum and multiplies our grace and peace to grow so that we can fulfil our ultimate calling.
4. Grace and peace is made accessible through the righteousness of God our Saviour Jesus Christ.
5. Grace and peace is multiplied the more you know God. As you apply your heart to knowledge – you know him and the power of His resurrection.
The word for knowledge in the Greek is epignosis G1922 speaks of recognition, and full discernment. Thayer’s dictionary explains that it is a precise and correct knowledge of things ethical and divine. There is plen
