It would appear as though Ryan Reynold’s social media stunt we discussed last week is having the intended effect as a few of our favorite trades can’t seem to come to a consensus. First, in the August 15 edition of Heat Vision, The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive column for all things comics, horror and sci-fi, Borys Kitt claimed that their sources confirmed Deadpool’s inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday. However, later that day Deadline refuted the speculation by citing their own sources who said the actor has not been seen on the London set and is not intended to appear in either upcoming Avengers film. In less nebulous Doomsday talk, Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming described his experience returning to the role as healing, after a terrible experience on 2003’s X2. 

It’s a big week for DC Studios with Superman hitting Video-On-Demand last Friday and Peacemaker Season 2 premiering this Thursday. While on the red carpet for the show's debut in New York, DC Studios head and Peacemaker’s showrunner James Gunn defended Superman’s quick availability for home viewing after just 35 days in theaters, by sharing how the film impacts the series. “It’s a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker,” said Gunn, while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter. “Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important,” he continued. Gunn also teased the future for Superman on the big screen, saying, “I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga.’ The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked-out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”

Back to the Wasteland we go, as Amazon’s marketing for Fallout Season 2 has begun in preparation for its December 17 premiere, with a full-court press that includes first look images and a trailer that was released earlier today. The images showcase returning characters played by Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Moises Arias, Aaron Moten and Kyle McLachlan, while the two minute 42-second trailer gave us our first glimpse at Justin Theroux’s enigmatic Mr. House and McCauley Caulkin in an undisclosed role, which were of course accompanied, yet again, by the crooning stylings of The Ink Spots.

In an interview with Collider, Marvel Zombies director Bryan Andrews confirmed that the series has moved its release date up to September 24th, and all episodes of the series will be available to stream at once. He also confirmed that the four episodes will be rated TV-MA.

At a recent London fan event Sir Ian McKellen claimed Frodo and Gandalf will appear in Andy Serkis' upcoming The Hunt for Gollum film without specifying whether he and Elijah Wood would reprise their iconic roles.

NBCUniversal announced that it has acquired all rights, excluding publishing, to Robert Ludlum’s popular Jason Bourne and Treadstone book series.

Weapons took the number one spot at the box office again in its second weekend with a drop of only 43%, bringing its worldwide total to nearly $150 million dollars. Nobody 2 generated around $15 million dollars worldwide in its opening weekend on a $25 million dollar budget.

Netflix has dropped a trailer for the second half of season 2 of Wednesday, which will stream on September 3rd.

Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers are in talks for a massive overall deal with Paramount that includes both streaming and features with a big theatrical component, something the pair have not been able to get at their current home of more than a decade, Netflix.

Original Scary Movie actresses Regina Hall and Anna Faris are coming back as Brenda and Cindy, respectively, for the Wayans Brothers’ restart of the comedy franchise, which is eyeing a 2026 release.

An original film beat out a sequel this weekend, with Zach Cregger’s new horror film Weapons starting its box office run by bringing in $71.8 million globally, while Disney’s Freakier Friday would have liked to switch places with it, opening to only $43.8 million globally. The Bob Odenkirk-led Nobody 2 will release next week and is expected to open to a modest $10 million domestically.

Ryan Reynolds posted an image of the Avengers logo with a red anarchy symbol spray painted over it to his Instagram this morning, which fans are taking as a tease that he will appear in next year's Avengers: Doomsday. The rumors are that the next list of cast members in the film is also “ridiculously long” so it seems like Reynolds is getting the jump on the announcement.

Peacock released our first extended look at The Paper, a new mockumentary series spun off from The Office, and made by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman. The trailer gives us a glimpse into several of the characters personalities and we see an old favorite, Oscar Martinez, who is NOT into being filmed again. The show is headlined by Domhnall Gleeson who plays an editor brought in to save a Toledo newspaper.

Dave Bautista is in final negotiations to play the villain in Amazon MGM’s remake of the 1980s cult classic Highlander. He will join Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe in the action fantasy, which hails from Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner and is slated to get a theatrical release.

Netflix has given an early season three renewal to its live-action adaptation of One Piece. The renewal comes several months ahead of the season two premiere, which is slated for 2026.

New Line is moving forward with a follow-up to its horror hit Final Destination: Bloodlines, hiring that movie’s co-writer, Lori Evans Taylor, to pen the next installment.

The Studio actress Chase Sui Wonders has been cast in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot series. She is believed to be playing a one off guest starring role as a vampire.

Shrek 5 has been pushed back from its original Dec. 23, 2026 date to Wednesday, June 30, 2027.

Noah Centineo is now attached to star in John Rambo, a Rambo prequel film from Sisu director Jalmari Helander. Currently, no studio is attached but Lionsgate is believed to be the front runner to land the project.

Taylor Lautner will play himself in the self-aware new series Taylor Lautner: Werewolf Hunter, which is in development at Amazon MGM Studios. 

Max Minghella, known for his role in The Handmaid’s Tale, may join the DCU’s film Clayface, according to Variety. He would join Tom Rhys Harries Naomi Ackie.

With the MCU’s latest big screen offering now in theaters, as rabid fans, it only makes sense to look to the future, and apparently Marvel and Sony agree, as myriad fresh details surrounding the franchise’s next film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day began hitting the internet all weekend. First, last Friday morning Sony released a 9-second video teasing features of Spidey’s new suit, which was quickly followed up with a 23-second video with star Tom Holland, in suit, performing some minor acrobatics the next day. Finally, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the longstanding rumor that Mark Ruffalo is reprising his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk for the film, while Better Call Saul actor, Michael Mando, was also announced to be returning as Mac Gargan/The Scorpion.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps continued its box office reign, raking in $39.6 million its second weekend for a $368 million total global haul. While far from a defeat, the staggering 67% drop from the flick’s first weekend presents a significant loss in momentum and is in stark contrast with expectations, which were largely fueled by positive reception and strong word of mouth among critics and fans. Elsewhere, Superman crossed the $550 million milestone internationally, and Jurassic World: Rebirth passed $750 million at the global box office after 5 weeks in theaters, becoming only the third film of 2025 to do so behind Lilo & Stitch and A Minecraft Movie. 

Amazon MGM’s upcoming James Bond film being directed by Dune’s Denis Villeneuve, is quickly coming together as Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has been hired to pen the script. Apart from Peaky Blinders, Knight has enjoyed a storied career on the small screen as a screenwriter, director and producer involved with projects such as Apple TV’s See and Netflix’s All The Light We Cannot See, while also co-creating Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? As far as big screen contributions, he wrote the screenplays for Eastern Promises and Spencer, which were both Oscars-nominated, and directed the films Hummingbird, Locke and Serenity, the 2019 film starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. Considering candidates for our new Bond, as if we could ever get enough of Tom Holland, the actor went on record to voice his reverence for the role as the “pinnacle” for British actors, while seemingly disqualifying himself by announcing another break from acting in 2027.

Per Deadline, Matt Smith has joined the cast of Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter in a villain role, set to appear alongside Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth in the film set for May 28, 2027. The House of the Dragon star gets another shot at the Star Wars universe after previously being cast in The Rise of Skywalker but ultimately not appearing in the final film.

John Krasinski announced he's returning to direct, write and produce A Quiet Place Part III, set for release on July 9, 2027; no cast or story details have been revealed.

Disney and Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: A New Hope will return to theaters on April 30, 2027, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film.

Aaron Sorkin has his sights set on Oscar winner Mikey Madison and Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White to star in The Social Network Part II, with Madison potentially playing a whistleblower and White as journalist Jeff Horwitz behind the explosive Facebook Files exposé. While no formal offers have been made, sources say these are Sorkin's top choices for the sequel that will explore Facebook's role in various controversies rather than serving as a direct continuation of the 2010 film.

Marvel Studios fired up the Fantasti-Car with glee, as Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened to a global $218 million for its first weekend. Marvel’s First Family just edged out Superman’s Thursday night previews bringing $24.4 million to Superman’s $22.5 million. But no fear, the DCU’s first feature film is flying high - having just passed the $500 million mark globally and is potentially closing in on Jurassic World: Rebirth’s $600 million global take.

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con may have felt a little demure with no large presences from Marvel Studios or DC Studios, but there’s still plenty to talk about. Let’s break down some highlights:

Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere this year on December 10 on Disney+. Casting for season 3 characters Nico and Bianca di Angelo was announced by author Rick Riordan - with Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie in the roles, respectively.

Rob Reiner shared the first trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. The film will release on September 2 of this year.

Early access footage from a range of projects was shown at SDCC. Attendees were treated to viewing bits of Peacemaker season 2, The Boys’ spinoff: Gen V’s second season trailer, Aztec Batman, The Long Walk, It: Welcome to Derry, Coyote vs. Acme, Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Project Hail Mary, and Five Nights at Freddy 2.   

Speaking of The Fantastic Four, moviegoers were treated to the first trailer to James Cameron’s third Avatar film prior to the latest MCU flick. Avatar: Fire & Ash will premiere December 19, 2025 and the sweeping trailer shows us the continued expansion of the world of Pandora with Jake Sully this time  facing a Na’vi antagonist. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprise their roles in the franchise along with many returning cast members and more storied actors have joined such as David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh.

Marvel Animation‘s Eyes of Wakanda, from executive producer Ryan Coogler, will be released earlier than expected. The four-part series, originally slated to drop on August 6, then moved to August 27, now will be released on August 1 on Disney+. The full voice cast also has been revealed, along with the first full trailer.

Hot off her Emmy nomination for her work in HBO’s The Penguin, Cristin Milioti is jumping into her next screen project, an independent horror thriller titled Buddy. Casper Kelly, who co-created Adult Swim shows such as Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell and the horror comedy viral sensation Too Many Cooks, is directing the feature and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are producing via their BoulderLight Pictures, which has the upcoming film Weapons on its slate.

Hulu has announced that all 10 episodes of Solar Opposites upcoming sixth and final season will drop Oct. 13 on Hulu and Disney+ and released a brief teaser trailer.

Ilya Naishuller is in negotiations to take over as director of Amazon MGM Studios Road House 2, following Guy Ritchie’s exit from the project for undisclosed reasons earlier this month.

Hans Zimmer will compose the score for the third season of Euphoria alongside British musician Labrinth, who scored the first two seasons.

Sources confirmed to Deadline that Skyler Gisondo is in talks to join the cast of Universal’s next installment in the Meet the Parents franchise, now titled Focker in Law. John Hamburg is directing with the original cast including Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner returning to star. Ariana Grande is also on board to join the cast.

Hulu has announced that Season 5 of its Emmy-winning comedy Only Murders in the Building will debut on the streamer September 9 with three episodes, with the remainder of the season rolling out with new episodes weekly.

Author Mike Chen is penning a prequel novel to the Star Wars: Outlaws game called Low Red Moon.

Marvel Studios may be sitting out of this weekend’s storied San Diego Comic Hall H, but that hasn’t stopped the big news and updates from pouring in. First, last week in a huge move, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige invited a small group of journalists to Marvel Studios’ offices where he laid out the future for the next 5 to 7 years for the MCU. The biggest takeaway, arguably, was Feige’s cagey hints regarding a likely reset to the universe during the events of Secret Wars, saying, “Reboot is a scary word; Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” Other tidbits from Feige’s comments include a commitment to recasting the X-Men with new actors for their post Secret Wars film, an update on the Mahershala Ali-led Blade film and Sony’s mandate that they stay away from a live action Miles Morales until the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy. In Marvel news that looks to the more immediate future, director Matt Shakman shared that John Malkovich’s role and performance as the Red Ghost has been removed from The Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which opens this week!

Superman continues to live up to its name when it comes to its performance, as the superhero flick passed $409 million at the global box office in its second weekend of release. The $58 million second weekend, which is a respectable -54% drop from the opening weekend, is in keeping with 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine and bodes favorably compared to other recent releases from the comic book genre; plus coupled with other wins like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, the latest success has helped Warner Bros become 2025’s top earning studio with $1.32 billion in ticket sales. In other news, Variety confirmed Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira has been tapped to pen the Wonder Woman reboot for the DCU in addition to being attached to a live action Teen Titans project for the studio.Lots and lots of trailers hit the interwebs last week, lets run them down and talk about ‘em:

Christopher Nolan made history by putting tickets on sale for The Odyssey exactly one year before the film's release, marking the first time any movie tickets have sold a full year in advance. The early sales were exclusively for IMAX 70mm screenings at select theaters, supporting Nolan's epic adaptation of the Greek myth that is being shot entirely on IMAX film cameras with a $250 million budget.

Hulu announced that Futurama Season 13 will switch from its recent weekly release format to an all-at-once binge drop, with all 10 episodes premiering simultaneously on September 15 at 5 p.m. PT. The change marks a departure from the weekly rollout used for Seasons 11 and 12.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star in Robert Eggers' upcoming werewolf horror film Werwulf, with Lily-Rose Depp in talks to join the project in what would reunite the Nosferatu co-stars. 

Nintendo and Sony's live-action Legend of Zelda movie has cast Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, with Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealing the casting choices alongside first-look photos on social media. 

Taika Waititi is attached to direct a new feature film take on British comic book character Judge Dredd. Drew Pearce, the scribe known for Fall Guy and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, is attached to write the script.

Disney's live action Lilo and Stitch has become the first film of 2025 to pass the $1 billion dollar mark at the international box office.

Nearly five years after Netflix entered into a content agreement with Ubisoft, the streamer has ordered an Assassin’s Creed live-action series, based on the best-selling video game franchise. The project will be created, showrun, and executive produced by Roberto Patino and David Wiener.

Consider our wishes granted, as Tom Holland shared in an interview with Flip Your Wig that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will show Spider-Man in a much more grounded setting than we’ve previously seen in the MCU. Holland refers back to Spider-Man: No Way Home as having been a fairly restricted set, due to COVID. Brand New Day will feature more real sets and on-location filming, according to the Spidey star.

It was all about the blue, red, and yellow this weekend at the box office, with the DCU’s first film, Superman, soaring to an excellent $220 million global opening and just beating its domestic estimate of $122 million by catching $125 million in the states. Warner Brothers should be thrilled with the opening since of their latest slate of DC films, only 2017’s Wonder Woman and The Batman crossed the $100 million mark during their opening weekends.

With last year’s banner year of television behind us, buzz about the Emmy’s has been hot and today the list of nominations dropped. Favorite of this cast, Severance, leads the drama show pack with 27 total nominations with other cast favorite, The Penguin, close behind with 24. The Studio and The White Lotus each grabbed 23 noms, and Hacks received the most for a comedy show with 14. The Bear continues its award showing as a comedy and a lot of our sci-fi/fantasy favorites such as Andor, Agatha All Along, Dune: Prophecy, and House of the Dragon, didn’t scoop any acting noms, but are up for production, costume, and directing - though Andor did snag a nomination for Best Drama Series.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has added Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, BJ Novak, and Pauline Chalamet to the cast. They join stars of the original movie Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci who will reprise their roles for the sequel.

20th Century and Shawn Levy's production company 21 Laps are currently in the early stages of revitalizing the Night at the Museum franchise. Tripper Clancy has been tasked to write the new take. Plot details for the reimaging are currently under wraps. All three original films were directed by Levy, who will remain as producer for the new film.

Netflix released the first trailer for season 2 of their hit show Wednesday. Part 1 of the series debuts on August 6 followed by Part 2 on September 3.

HBO Max has formally greenlit Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a Big Bang Theory spin off comedy that will center on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom played by Kevin Sussman, who had a heavily recurring role on the original CBS series. The show comes from Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, and Zak Penn — and unlike the original series and its other spinoffs, it will feature a heavy dose of sci-fi alongside its comedy, including multiversal elements.

Peacock has set an official release date for The Office spinoff series The Paper. The show will debut its first four episodes on September 4, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through September 25.

Murderbot has been renewed for a second season at Apple TV+ after airing its season one finale on July 11.

Star Wars creator George Lucas is coming to San Diego Comic-Con for his first-ever panel. Lucas will be joined by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, and artist and Star Wars prequels production designer Doug Chiang for a panel that will explore the power of illustrated story and offer a sneak peek at the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

James Gunn’s Superman held its premiere in London July, 2, where the director confidently told The Times of London that his superhero epic celebrates "the story of America" and champions basic human kindness in a world that desperately needs it. Meanwhile, star David Corenswet shared at the London premiere that his predecessors did “a very Superman thing,” with former Men of Steel Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin encouraging him to make the role his own.

Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth chomped its way to a $147 million five-day weekend opening during the Fourth of July. While those numbers would make any studio exec happy, they're actually a steep drop from the franchise's predecessors, suggesting that after 32 years, audiences might be experiencing some dino-fatigue. Universal clearly saw the writing on the wall and slashed the production budget from a mammoth $250 million down to a more modest $180 million, but the franchise is still roaring overseas. 

Australian-American actor Julian McMahon, beloved for his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, and as Dr. Doom in the 2000’s 20th Century Fox Fantastic Four films, died peacefully on July 2nd at age 56 following a private battle with cancer.

Michael Madsen, the gravel-voiced character actor best known for his menacing roles in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and The Hateful Eight, died Thursday morning from cardiac arrest at his Malibu home at age 67.

The next installment in Denis Villenueve’s Dune franchise will officially be titled Dune: Three. Villenueve also revealed that the film will be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.

According to a rumor from The DisInsider, Disney and LucasFilm are having active conversations planning a full reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise.

The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann is stepping down as co-showrunner of the HBO series after completing work on season two, choosing to return his focus to video game development at Naughty Dog including his next project Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The Office star Craig Robinson announced on Instagram that he's officially quitting comedy to focus on his true calling. Abrams' Bad Robot producing. The high-octane action film follows Mattel's success with Barbie as the toy company continues mining its properties for big-screen adaptations.

Jimmy Olsen actor Skyler Gisondo revealed he mistakenly believed he was auditioning for the title role in James Gunn's Superman film, thinking the character name in his audition materials was just a placeholder to hide the fact he was reading for Clark Kent. The mix-up led to an awkward phone call with his representatives who had to clarify who he was actually auditioning for, though director James Gunn reportedly loved the story.

It’s been debated and anticipated…but Matt Reeves finally confirmed via Instagram on June 27 that he and co-writer Mattson Tomlin have completed their script for The Batman Part II. Variety reports that the film is scheduled to release on October 1, 2027, which - if true - will mean this sequel comes out more than five years after the first film. Both James Gunn and Reeves have been repeatedly asked about the state of the film, with Gunn recently rebuking online pressure for Reeves and remarking that a script is expected in June and - ta da, the Dark Knight arrived on time!

One half of the big decisions needed to move the James Bond franchise forward has been made. Dune director Denis Villneuve will usher in the next 007 for Amazon MGM as the mega corp looks to refresh and restart the classic spy film franchise. David Heyman and Amy Pascal, who have already been announced as producers, will be joined by Tonya Lapointe who will serve as an executive producer alongside the director. Villneuve referred to Bond as “sacred territory” for him as a filmmaker.

This week audiences said “YES” to original films, with the Brad Pitt-led F1 speeding to number one at the box office with a $144 million global takeover. Apple, who released the film, integrated it into their retail stores - with surprise appearances by Pitt and CEO Tim Cook - offered reduced tickets using ApplePay, and offered a deeper dive on Apple Maps of the Grand Prix race tracks, as well as other unique marketing opportunities. M3GAN 2.0 got a road rash, opening to just $10.2 million, and How to Train Your Dragon stayed strong at number two bringing in a three week domestic total of $200 million.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the full trailer for Project Hail Mary, the upcoming film adaptation of the 2021 science fiction novel from The Martian author, Andy Weir. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the movie stars Ryan Gosling as a sixth-grade science teacher sent into space to save Earth. It is scheduled to hit theaters on March 20, 2026.

Disney has announced a sequel to its live action Lilo and Stitch film. The news comes as the film approaches the $1 billion dollar mark at the global box office.

Edgar Wright’s latest film The Running Man released a trailer today. The movie is adapted from a Stephen King novel and stars Glen Powell, Colman Domingo, Josh Brolin, William H. Macey, and others in a dystopian game show style action flick.

Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent has joined the cast of Legendary Entertainment’s feature adaptation of the video game Street Fighter. Jackson will play Balrog, a disgraced boxer who is also the bodyguard of the villain. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that he is deep into training for the part and will be doing his own stunts. David Dastmalchian has also been cast to play baddie M. Bison.

Sources tell Deadline that The Social Network director Aaron Sorkin has been set to direct The Social Network Part II for Sony Pictures. Insiders say that while it’s being called part two, it’s not a straight sequel but rather a follow-up to the original movie.

WandaVision and Agatha All Along creator Jac Schaeffer is replacing Moira Walley-Beckett as showrunner for the Fourth Wing series adaptation at Amazon MGM Studios. Schaeffer signed an overall deal with the studio. The series is produced by Michael B. Jordan’s company, Outlier Society.

Over the weekend at car festival Fuel Fest, Vin Diesel spoke to a crowd of fans and confirmed a tentative release window for the next installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise for April of 2027. He also mentioned that he wants to reunite his character with Paul Walker's character Brian O'Conner. Since Walker passed away in 2013, he would have to be digitally inserted into the film.

FX announced today that The Bear has been renewed for a fifth season.

It’s a big week for Marvel news! First up, Jon Bernthal has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as his take on The Punisher makes the transition from Marvel Television to the big screen. He joins newcomer Sadie Sink, alongside Zendaya and Jacob Batalon who were also confirmed to be returning as MJ and Ned, respectively. Elsewhere, on Wednesday Disney announced that Marvel Studios is scheduled to release an untitled film slated for December 15, 2028, which if holds true, would be the studio’s fourth theatrical offering for that year. In Variety’s article on said possible fourth 2028 Marvel Studios film, the writer suggested that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier has gone from being in talks, to officially tapped as the director for the upcoming X-Men film. 

Fresh details on the recently cast Clayface film from DC Studios co-head James Gunn said the film would be R-rated during his appearance on the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast. "It's just a great horror movie that is a great, smart, fun horror movie which is in a genre that I happen to love, which is body horror," he said; continuing with, "It's rated R… It's not anything now because the MPA has to watch it, but it's most likely rated R. It's pretty intense." In other DCU news, box office tracking for Superman via the National Research Group (NRG) has the film projected to open between $125 and  $145 million domestically, with more conservative estimates ranging between $90 and $125 million. The fledgling DCU certainly seems to be living up to its Gods and Monsters thematic moniker. 

It was a story of highs and lows at the box office this weekend, with the newcomers 28 Years Later and Pixar’s Elio unable to dethrone Dreamworks’ live action How To Train Your Dragon remake, which passed $358 million at the global box office in just two weeks. Although both new films bowed to the reigning champ, the narrative is far more devastating for Pixar and Elio; despite positive critical reviews, the celebrated animation studio’s latest feature struggled to muster even a meager $35 million globally; a record low and troubling sign concerning the performance, or lack thereof, for original films at Pixar. Danny Boyles’ legacy horror sequel 28 Years Later fared far better, debuting to $30 million both domestically and internationally, for a $60 million total haul

Marvel Comics has announced Spider-Man '94, a four issue limited comic run that will close the cliffhanger left by Spider-Man The Animated Series from its final episode in 1998. The series is written by long-time Spidey veteran and a writer on the original animated series, J.M. DeMatteis, with art by Jim Towe. 

Russell Crowe is boarding at Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists’ Highlander in the Ramirez mentor role made famous by Sean Connery in the original 1986 movie. He joins Henry Cavill who is playing the lead role. 

AMC has released a teaser trailer for season 3 of Walking Dead spin off Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and announced that the series will premiere on September 7. 

James Bobin, director of The Muppets, is in talks to helm Netflix’s Dragon’s Lair, based on the classic 1980s arcade game, per The Hollywood Reporter. Ryan Reynolds, originally set to star, but no longer, is producing alongside Roy Lee, Trevor Engelson, and game creators Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, and Jon Pomeroy.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released a new trailer for ‘Weapons’ written and directed by Zach Cregger which offers more eerie footage from the film.

It’s a big week for fans of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding franchise; Death Stranding 2: On the Beach releases this week on June 26, for the Playstation 5 exclusively. Kojima Productions also announced an animated feature film being written by Raised by Wolves‘ Aaron Guzikowski; this is in addition to the previously announced live action Death Stranding film adaptation in development.
