Publisher's Summary:
Claire Malloy - Arkansas bookseller and widowed mother - after a long courtship has finally said "I do" to her swain, Lieutenant Peter Rosen. Now they are on their honeymoon in Luxor, Egypt. That is, Claire is on her honeymoon - accompanied by Caron, her teenaged daughter, and Inez, Caron's best friend and frequent partner in adventure. Peter is mostly away on various mysterious consultations with equally mysterious government agencies for his new mysterious job. Claire is intent on a quiet, uneventful honeymoon, but things go from bucolic to creepy, when Caron and Inez are chased through darkened deserted alleys, by persons unknown, and a student of their acquaintance is kidnapped by two young men on horseback in a scene reminiscent of a Valentino film. Something is clearly afoot in this tourist paradise, and Claire will stop at nothing to find out what it is.
Winner of the AudioFile Earphones Award.

Fun setting
I actually enjoyed this title quite a bit. The story was a little convoluted, but the setting was great. It would have been nice if Peter hung around a little more since he just married Claire, but she manages to get herself into plenty of trouble with him absent. I think it was a spoof of the spook community and that is kind of fun. I loved her descriptions of Egypt and the Winter Palace, although I was amazed at how little Claire actually managed to see in Luxor, which is one of the most fabulous places on earth to visit. But the Lake Nasser cruise was fun, and the abduction of one of the cruise members was a hoot. I also enjoyed the parody of the British ex-pat community (I hope folks realize it really is waaaay over the top). All in all a fun spoof of an Agatha Christie-type mystery.
Loved it with good reason!!
This was a a very good book! She is quite accurate historically. He main characters are very likable, there were twists and turns I was not expecting!! It all came to a good end! This was my first Joan Hess, it far from my last!!
Joan Hess takes on Egypt
Claire Malloyâs honeymoon in Egypt is one for the books, and so here it is. Lots of laughs, although Iâm getting a little tired of Caron and Inez.
I'd easily recommend it to her readers
Without overburdening the book with darkness, there are some very timely references to what have turned out to be continuing troubles in Egypt. But the style and sensibilities of the tale remain as usual in Miss Hess' books. I'd easily recommend it to her readers.
I Love Hess
I love all of the Claire Malloy series. There may be gaffs or slip-ups in the stories at times, but I am laughing out loud so often, I can't seem to find them. I don't understand how someone can be continually funny through so many volumes of books in different series.
