The situation is tense but calm in Middelburg, Mpumalanga following the fatal shooting of two Steve Tshwete Municipal workers on Wednesday. Two other workers have been hospitalised following the shooting. Private security guards contracted by the municipality opened fire at striking municipal workers who were forcing their way into the municipal building on Wednesday. The workers have been on strike for the past weeks demanding better salaries and reinstatement of 16 workers suspended in July. This is not the first of such incidents, we have seen councillors killed while

others threatened in other parts of the country. KZN, North West and the Eastern Cape just to name a few. Today we thought to zoom in a bit into what could be behind incidents of this nature.
