Museum puts historic flamboyant waistcoats on display

Listen Later

Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery has more than 1,000 items in its fabric collection and they have pulled out 10 waistcoats from the last 200 years or so and put them on display with a commentary.

They are very flamboyant for fashionable men of the time to stand out in and reflect all kinds of trends - length, pockets, fabrics, colours and fit (clipped at the waist or loose there ....)

They could also reflect your own hobbies and interests.

Louse Weller, the Head of Collections and Exhibitions at the Museum spoke to Mike Waddington about what men in the nineteenth century (and earlier) were investing in.
