A question form parents that has comes fairly regularly is "my child's teacher or service provider is out on leave or the position is open and my child is not receiving their services. What do we do?"
And this a tough one because of the teacher shortage and the challenges school districts are having hiring and retaining high quality staff for our students, especially post-pandemic. Even if the district is trying their best, your child still deserves to have access to their services as outlined on their IEP to give the FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education). So what can you do as a caregiver/parent?
3. Familiar yourself with the concept of ompensatory services and how to advocate for these to ensure your child is able to continue to progress and recoup and skills that regressed due to missed services.
If you have concerns about your child missing services or accomodations/modifcations not being provided while an educator or service provider is out on leave or there is an open position, reach out and schedule a 20 minute consult with us today to see how we can help you!
