My Experience in a Hurricane

On Sept 14-16 I rode out Hurricane Lee with family in Nova Scotia. While the hurricane became a tropical storm upon arrival, the lessons from being ready and what communications were issued is important. We discuss what it was like, the damage to a few trees, the need to understand your preparedness support equipment in advance and the vague and generalist nature of public sector resident facing preparedness communications.
Remember, you're one wind storm from losing access to the Internet and cell networks. What is your plan when you cannot communicate with anyone? This hurricane serves as a learning opportunity, what went well and what can we improve upon. For those not near a hurricane, what would our world look like when we lose our power, utilities, communication networks? How do we intend to shelter in place?
Important questions.
