Our featured guest today, Ms. Dorla E. Bonner-Colemen, is a woman of strength. There is a vast difference between a strong woman and a woman of strength. A strong woman places her confidence in her own strength. The woman of strength realizes that she can do all things only through Christ who strengthens her. A woman of strength is true to herself. She is aware of her weaknesses, yet she chooses to live beyond her limitations. She does not dine at the table of defeat. She does not eat the bread of idleness, but her delight is in the law of the Lord, and she mediates in it day and night. On a day to day basis regardless of the opposition, she observes to do all that is written therein, and she has learned that the Master makes her way prosperous and she observes to do all that He commands. In like manner,
Dorla's life testimony beautifully reflects the characteristics of a strong woman of God. Notably, she was blessed to be born in a family with a love for God and for each other. She is the 9th of 11 children born to H. J. and Martha Coleman. Her father was a pastor and her mom worked right by his side while managing the upbringing of their very large family. Not only was there a love for God but for learning and education. Dorla followed in that love for education, earning a bachelor’s in business administration, Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership, a certification from Cornell University in Diversity and Inclusion and advanced coursework in Public Administration. She is in her 11th year of employment with the City of Kalamazoo currently serving as the City’s inaugural Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Dorla is the proud mother of Anthony II and Brandi and granny of Arielle. Dorla was raised to love God and was blessed to drawn into a life changing relationship with the Lord at 21 and has been walking with Him since then. Walking with him though much suffering, through many mistakes and with many miracles. Dorla’s testimony is that she is humbled by God’s grace in her life, that through it all God keeps her. A licensed minister, many of the messages God gives her is to encourage with hope that you can make it through these hard times. It is not a theory for her it is her life story.
“At the end of the day, the enemy is going to be sorry he ever messed with you. You’re about to become his worst nightmare a million times over. He thought he could wear you down, sure that after a while you’d give up without much of a fight. Well, just wait till he encounters the fight of God’s Spirit in you. Because ... This. Means. War.” ― Priscilla Shirer
