I've recently passed my one-year anniversary as a freelance copywriter. When I got into this, I just wanted to be able to write and make money instead of working a labor job or a kitchen job because I hated those jobs. Now, I have a few clients, and I'm set on being a professional who also has a creative life outside of work. My creative pursuits are as follows: make a comic book, write a novel -- and then just keep doing that forever. This podcast episode shares what my first year as a copywriter was like and all of the things I wish I had known when I started, like how important it is to save your money and the fact that you're going to need to learn how to set boundaries in a professional way. This is episode 6 of the Write For A Living podcast, where I document my journey of becoming a paid writer and sometimes interview other writers.
