"Makeda! Keshon!"
Mrs. Abbot, the Head of the orphanage, screamed at us.
Keshon swung at me but I dodged his blow and punched him in the stomach. Before I could deliver another blow, Aunty Pearl, one of the workers at the orphanage, held my hand.
That night I went to bed without dinner.
Life at the orphanage was tough but my life was about to change. Continue watching my story to see how!
With a birthmark as big as mine on my face, I was a target for cruel words at the orphanage. Anyone who even thought about saying anything to me would be floored in 3 seconds flat.
One afternoon Aunty Pearl pulled me aside and handed me a pallet of makeup when I was 12yrs old.
"You can't fight everyone so let me help you cover it up."
Aunty Pearl gave me my first makeup lesson that day. One problem was I couldn't wear waterproof makeup because I was allergic.
At age 14, Aunty Pearl walked into my room.
"I have great news," her eyes lit up. "Ms. Abbot wants you downstairs in the office asap. There is a couple that wants to meet you."
I danced around the room before I quickly composed myself and headed to the office.
