Snip! Snip! Snip! The sound of the scissors cutting my long black hair echoed in my mind. This was the moment when I turned into a boy for money. My parents forced me to do it.

“Charlotte! Charlotte!” my mother bolted through the door one afternoon. I was sitting at the dining room table helping my seven-year-old brother Jayden with his home-work. “What’s wrong mom?” I asked, startled by her sudden intrusion.

“Guess what?” my mother said, and her eyes grew brighter as she spoke.

“What?” I asked my mother.
