I have an opinion piece out today in The New York Times, in which I argue that the emerging right-wing ideology that regards diversity as a departure from the cultural foundations of our country and that idealizes those citizens who trace their bloodlines back to the founding colonies is historically delusional. The founders were awash in diversity and regarded each others’ alien folkways with deep suspicion that could even threaten violence. Multiculturalism is nothing new; it’s what our nation was built from.
I hope you enjoy the piece.
