“I hate you! I should have never married you! You awful, hideous, stupid man! You have the IQ of a chicken!”
“Oh yeah? Well you’re the ugliest woman I ever dated! I only married you because you were pregnant with my child!”
“Well fine! We should just get a divorce then!”
“That’s the best idea you’ve had since our wedding day!”
These two nutcases are my parents. They’d been arguing like this since the day I was born. And somehow, they stayed together for a pretty long time and they even had two other kids – my little sisters Andrea and Janie.
But this time? It was final. They’d always threatened each other about divorcing in the past but this time they were serious.
My dad packed his bags and left that night. The papers were signed by the next week and the week after that, our family split up forever.
The judge made a weird decision. I was going to live with my dad but my younger sisters would stay with my mom. My dad decided he wanted to live as far away from my mom as possible so we moved from Texas all the way to Michigan. I was fine with that because that’s where I wanted to go to college. But I knew I’d miss my sisters and my mom dreadfully.
On our first night in our new house in Michigan my dad started behaving all weird.
“Coral, I really hope you like it here. But there’s something I really need to tell you and please... please don’t get mad.”
