It seems nearly axiomatic that the people who say they despise political parties, and the rancor of partisan politics, don’t really despise political parties so much as they despise that there are people who have ideas that are different from theirs.

I hate to break it to you, but there is no middle. It’s a myth. There may, at one time, long ago, in a republic far, far away, been something akin to what people today think the political middle is, but it is nothing more than a façade.
