Cost of Living & if consumers can tighten the belts
Focus: The start of April has been heralded tariff hikes which took effect this week: petrol and energy. These increases will have an impact on the cost of living as inflation will take up the price of food. Further, major municipal metropolitans may increase rates and taxes. Given this backdrop, salaries remain stagnant with no real prospect of keeping up with inflation. In this discussion, we are looking at the difficulties that lie ahead for consumers and what interventions need to be made to provide them much needed relief.
Guest: Mzwanele Ntshwanti - Economist and Academic at the Department of Economics at the University of South Africa
Guest: Matthew Parks – Acting Spokesperson and Parliamentary Coordinator at the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)
