Companies often complain that they have job openings but can’t find workers with the skills to fill them.  It’s called the “skills gap,” but some people say this idea is overblown.  Today we’ll debate the skills mismatch in the U.S. workforce and look at how to get more workers employed and prepare them for the jobs of the future.  We’ll also discuss the state of manufacturing in America and at what the recent job numbers from the Department of Labor tell us about the economy.  Marty’s guests are DEAN BAKER, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research and CARL VAN HORN, director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University. But first, we’ll talk about the rising rhetoric and tensions between the U.S. and North Korea with ROBERT LITWAK, director of international security studies at the Wilson Center and author of Preventing North Korea's Nuclear Breakout.
