It's Tuesday!

I was first introduced to Nafissa through her stunning debut short story collection, "Heads of the Colored People." I devoured it in a single day, and as soon as I parted ways with the final page, I wished I could start over. Refreshingly honest, remarkably hilarious, and incredibly representative of a marginalized group of black people living in this country, it is receiving high praise, and she deserves every bit of it. It was such a treat to sit down and pick her brain about the characters in her book, writing, living with a chronic illness, her husband, and whether they'll send their kids to private (like her experience) or public (like her husband's) school. Go and pick up her book as soon as humanly possible - even if you don't resonate, it will help broaden your perspective on how people (me!) exist around you.
