There is a valley carved by ice and time, where the South Nahanni River snakes through canyons deeper than any grave... and where men go in with dreams of gold and come out (when they come out at all) missing their heads. This is the Valley of the Headless Men.

For over a century, prospectors have vanished here. Cabins burn with no trace of fire. Skeletons are found minus the skull. Gold pans sit untouched beside the ashes, as if whatever took those heads wasn’t interested in riches.

The Dene have always known why. Not the shy, camera-dodging Bigfoot of the Pacific Northwest. They describe it as a creature the size of a Kodiak bear with shaggy hair and dressed in the remnants of clothing and furs.
