In this week’s episode of NAMI Maine Talks, sit down with our team and take a look back in history. This October marks 63 years since President John F. Kennedy signed the Community Mental Health Act. This act was one of the driving forces behind the deinstitutionalization of mental health treatment in America. By removing these barriers and bringing mental health care and education into communities, it was one of the first major movements to reduce stigma around mental illness. Learn about the act and how it’s left a lasting impact on mental health care in this episode of NAMI Maine Talks.
